Mr. Yohannes Sitotaw is a Senior Researcher at Bio and Emerging Technology Institute (BETiN) with expertise in research ethics, regulation, and biomedical science. He served as the former Secretary and is now a Member of the National Research Ethics Review Board. He was a grantee and coordinator of EDCTP-funded projects (CSA2016ERC-1417-SteRN & CSA2015ERC-872), which focused on building regulatory and ethics capacity in Ethiopia. He has also worked as a Clinical Research Associate for the FLAME trial (NCT04149210) and the FAWSH field trial with Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and LSHTM through Berhan Public Health and Eye Care consultancy. Additionally, he has conducted more than 30 training sessions on research ethics and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for researchers, ethics committee members, and policymakers, which support the formation and strengthening of Institutional Review Boards.
Mr. Sitotaw’s involvement with the Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR) matches the 2025 theme, “Reimagining Research Partnerships: Equity, Power, and Resilience.” He wants to share practical insights on ethical frameworks, governance, and resilience. His goal is to help develop solutions that tackle structural inequities in global health research, especially in Africa. He is also open to collaboration and networking on initiatives that advance equitable, accountable, and community-driven partnerships.
