Dr. Chidi Victor Nweneka is a physician, epidemiologist, and public health expert with several decades of experience in clinical research and health systems strengthening across low- and middle-income countries. He holds an MBBS from the University of Benin, an MSc in Epidemiology from the University of London, and a PhD from the University of Glasgow.
His career has spanned senior leadership, research, and advisory roles at national, regional, and international levels. He previously served as Deputy Director (Policy & Strategy) at Nigeria’s National Agency for the Control of AIDS, where he was central to the development of national strategic and operational frameworks. In vaccine advocacy, he has contributed to advancing local vaccine manufacturing in Africa as a board member and Advocacy Working Group lead of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Initiative (AVMI), engaging in initiatives such as the Africa CDC’s Partnerships for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM).
Dr. Nweneka has authored numerous scientific papers and contributed to landmark studies addressing infectious diseases and public health challenges. His research experience has given him deep insight into the ethical complexities of conducting clinical studies in LMIC contexts, particularly regarding community engagement, informed consent, equity, and access. He has also served on ethics and scientific committees, including for NHVMAS and the Bioethics Forum, helping shape debates on ethical rigor, inclusiveness, and justice in health research.
Through this work, Dr. Nweneka continues to influence global health policy, research ethics, and sustainable vaccine development.
