Dr. Pramod Joshi is a Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon (specialized in Arthroplasty &
Arthroscopy) and Professor with more than 25 years of dedicated service in Nepal’s health
sector. Currently, he serves as the Member-Secretary and Executive Chief of the Nepal Health
Research Council (NHRC), Government of Nepal, leading health research governance, research
regulation, and evidence-to-policy translation.
Dr. Joshi is the founder director of Geta Hospital and Geta Medical University, the first medical
university in Nepal, as well as the Central Treasurer of the Nepal Medical Association and
President of the Nepal Orthopedic Association (Far-West Province), and former Medical
Superintendent of the National Trauma Centre.
Throughout his career, he has led multiple national and international research projects as
principal investigator, focusing on health systems, non-communicable and communicable
diseases, public health, trauma care, and orthopedic innovation. He has delivered invited lectures
and keynote addresses at prestigious Academic Universities in Asia, Europe, the United States,
UK, Australia, and Brazil. His contributions include strengthening research regulations,
developing ethical guidelines, promoting evidence-based decision-making, and advancing
orthopedic surgical techniques in Nepal.
In addition to his clinical and research leadership, he has served on numerous high-level steering
committees, expert panels, and task forces formed by the Government of Nepal, contributing to
national health policy development and emergency response strategies. His professional goal is
to bridge the gap between evidence generation and policy implementation to improve health
outcomes in Nepal and beyond. He has authored and co-authored numerous national and
international peer-reviewed publications.
