Thao has a background in the anthropology of health and illness, and an interest in social science and qualitative approaches to health research more broadly. She is affiliated with the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) in Vietnam, a research programme on infectious diseases where she has worked in a social science capacity. At OUCRU, Thao was part of the Social Science and Engagement Action Research (SPEAR) study, focusing on the impacts of public health responses to COVID-19 on vulnerable communities in Indonesia, Nepal and Vietnam. Currently, she is involved in the Collective Action Against Antimicrobial Resistance (Co-Act) study to understand antibiotic use and pilot engaged and participatory interventions to address antimicrobial resistance across primary healthcare, community and farm settings in rural northern Vietnam. She is responsible for a process evaluation component to evaluate the interventions’ implementation and mechanisms.
